The leader went silent for a moment after hearing the old man’s words, then said, "In that case, I will leave several of our brothers here to protect you. I will go with Da Huang and Xiao Huang to look for the first team."
The guards were stunned by his words and one of the guards said, "Boss, it’s too dangerous with just the three of you. Let me go too."
The leader shook his head and replied, "Besides me, you are the strongest among us. I will be more at ease knowing you are here with them."
"But I—"
Before he could finish, the leader added, "I know you are loyal and worried about me and our brothers, but you have responsibilities too. You can’t abandon your wife and child to go on a risky mission."
The man looked at his family and met with his wife’s pleading gaze. After a while, he lowered his head and said nothing.
Sensing their low mood, the leader said, "Alright, let’s not waste time. Have lunch first. Once that’s done, pack your things and prepare to leave."
"Understood," the guards and villagers replied before dispersing.
The women went to prepare lunch, while the men and children began packing their belongings. Everyone worked in silence as no one knew what would happen to them after they left this place.
