Chapter 92: Moral Kidnapping (Part One)
Granny Long continued to narrate the events leading to Old man Chen’s house sale.
The house was indeed Old man Chen’s property, but when he was sent down to the countryside, the house was requisitioned and allocated to three families to live in, one of which was Ma Dapan.
However, a few years back, after Old man Chen was rehabilitated, the house was returned to him. The three families who were living there had to move out.
The other two families were fine with it, but Ma Dapan, who lived in the main house, refused to leave. She claimed that since Old man Chen’s son wasn’t in B city, an old man like him couldn’t possibly need such a large house and she wouldn’t move. It took a prolonged verbal battle before she grudgingly moved out.
After Old man Chen retired, his son came to take him to H city, but he was too attached to the house to leave. However, a few days ago, there were rumors that his grandson had a heart condition that urgently needed money for treatment, and this led him to consider selling the house.
As soon as the news got out, there were indeed people who came to view the house, but all were driven away by Ma Dapan, who claimed the house was originally lived in by her family and that Old man Chen could only sell it to her. Even if someone else bought it, she would not accept it.
Old man Chen didn’t care whom he sold the house to; he just wanted the money. Yet for a house worth over thirty-five thousand, Ma Dapan was only willing to offer fifteen thousand, and naturally, Old man Chen disagreed.
But Ma Dapan was a tough nut; she pestered Old man Chen day after day to sell the house to her. Old man Chen was utterly annoyed, but his son was already overwhelmed with his grandson’s illness and had no time or energy to deal with this matter.
"Ma Dapan probably had something to do yesterday and left at noon. Then you showed up and bought the house in one afternoon. How could she not be angry? Tell me, with her anger, do you think she’d leave you alone and let you live in peace?"
