Chapter 219: Taking the manager to the station
"You said you were the place. Can I see your badge?"
Arlen passed it to her and she took it hesitantly.
"You can also go online to the place’s website to confirm."
She picked up her phone and checked, her eyes darting from the screen to him. After she took a deep breath, "Officer, my father is dead. He has been dead for over a year."
The three of them looked at each other. This lead just suddenly became a dead end. Arlen was calm and his face did not show any shocked expression. He smiled gently at the lady, "We are sorry for your loss."
The woman shrugged her shoulders, "It has been over a year. Besides, we were not close, he and my mom divorced when I was very little. I was actually shocked to learn that he had left everything to me."
Arlen placed the file on the table, "We take it that this company now belongs to you."
The woman held a cigarette in her hand but she did not smoke it, frowning, she collected the file and shook her head mere seconds later, "I auditioned everything. My father...well, he was not a good person. I did not want to get involved in something I had no idea about so everything, his shares, his cars, I auditioned everything away. I used a foreign audition company, ’Wrap it Up’." Her cheeks flushed a bit, "It is not like I don’t support local businesses but they were asking a lot of questions and I needed everything to be good. Before my parents divorced, I grew up here so I wanted to keep the house. It was the only thing that I wanted to keep. I am sorry, I can not be of much help but I can email the company and ask for the records of those who bought the properties. Would that help?"
"Very much so, thank you for your time, Miss Thompson."
"Glad I can help."
The three of them stood up and left the building, heading back to the office.
