Chapter 208: Going back to work
Malik took a few more bites. The porridge was soft and melted without chewing. It was a bit bland with only a bit of sesame oil for flavor. This kind of porridge was the kind you had to stand by the stove and constantly stir so it would neither have lumps nor end up mashed up.
The emotions of worry and concern wafting from this person were addicting warm. Malik was not in the habit of lying to himself. He knew as long as this person was in this place, he would reconnect back here. He would always come back to Harlem.
It was funny, turns out he was also as simple as the same people he looked down on.
Ravi was sitting down on the sofa next to him, there was no smile on his face, after Malik finished drinking the small bowl of porridge, he passed him another bowl, "Have some steamed eggs."
Malik obediently took the small white bowl, the egg was smooth and flat with a bit of green onion sprinkled on top. It jiggled when his spoon touched shattering, the steamed egg inside was warm, just the right temperature. He tasted it, it was tender and subtly delicious, very light. You did not need to chew carefully, it easily slid down the throat to the stomach."
When he was done, Ravi took the bowl and gave him a bottle of water, he drank a bit.
Seeing that he had finished eating, Ravi opened his mouth but before he could speak, Malik interrupted him, "That was very reckless of me. I should have had a hot shower, changed into dry clothes and had a cup of ginger tea before going to sleep. As an adult, I have responsibilities, number one of them is taking care of myself so as not to worry those under my care. I should care more about my body."
Ravi felt as if the words were taken out of his mouth and he glared at Malik who smiled gently at him. Lana and Asher had already gone to school and he was already dressed for work when Sage had run to him, telling him that Malik was sick. Thankfully, it was just a cold from yesterday.
"As long as you know."
