"William?" Anna called softly as she peeked into his room, her hands gripping the doorframe like a child too timid to step into someone else’s space. There was a hesitant vulnerability in her stance—fragile, uncertain, as though she wasn’t sure she was welcome.
"I knew you’d come," William said, rising from the bed with the slow, deliberate grace of a predator. He moved toward her with quiet intensity, his gaze locked on her. "Are you drunk?"
Anna gave a reluctant nod and finally stepped inside, shutting the door gently behind her. "How did you know I’d come?"
Well, the drunk part was probably obvious, she thought, wryly acknowledging her slightly unsteady movements.
William’s lips curved into a knowing smile as he ran his fingers through his tousled brown hair. He took another slow step forward, closing the gap between them with the quiet confidence that made Anna’s heart race.
"Isn’t it obvious?"
He stopped just in front of her, close enough for her to feel the heat of his skin. Then, with a gentleness that caught her completely off guard, he tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. His fingertips grazed her flushed cheek, leaving a trail of electricity in their wake. That single, fleeting touch made her knees tremble.
The atmosphere in the room was heavy with unspoken emotion—dimmed lights casting shadows on the walls, the scent of his cologne mingling with the soft night air drifting through the open window, and the faint rustle of leaves whispering outside.
"Ah!" A sudden shift pulled her off balance, jolting her from her thoughts. Startled, she looked down with wide eyes—only to find herself lifted into the air.
"Will!" she gasped, staring up at him in surprise.
