Chapter 416: Overdue
I didn’t think that we would have the chance to communicate with our child so early in his life like this. I couldn’t help but hope that the prince could have a conversation with our son.
"I’m sorry to break it to you, but it’s not as easy as you think. Just as a human baby takes time to develop his vocabulary in the human language and speak it, something similar happens to wolves. Even though I can understand him, he’s only saying very basic words and starting to do quite a lot at that," the prince said before letting out a soft laugh. He shot me a glance that told me it was too bad, but instead of feeling regretful, I found it entertaining and quite funny instead.
"I guess our boy is going to be naturally bilingual right from the start," I said with an approving nod of my head.
Raising baby Logan was challenging, yet it also felt very rewarding at the same time. I wouldn’t have chosen to have it any other way. I was proud of being my son’s mother and Prince Leonard’s partner. However much we enjoyed the experience of raising our son, there was a silent agreement between us that we would not have another child. We did not end up discussing it directly, but I could feel that we were both not ready to take on the burden of raising another child. Regardless, I did look forward to having another child with the prince one day, perhaps when Logan can take a little bit of care of himself.
...
One fine day, Prince Leonard returned to the palace a little late in the evening. It was unusual for him to spend the entire day away from me and baby Logan, so I figured that something very important must have come up. I took it as a great opportunity to become more independent from the prince in my care of our child. Based on the prince’s advice, I tried my best to leverage the help of the nurses and the caretakers. However, despite Logan being on his best behavior, I couldn’t stop myself from wishing that Prince Leonard was with me, and I looked forward to his return. Thankfully, by the time the prince later got back, Logan had already fallen asleep.
"Were things busy at work?" I asked as we both sat down on a sofa in our living room.
"Everything is fine," the prince replied without any further explanation. I would have been very tempted to believe his reassuring words had the prince not had a very stressful and tiring look on his face. Whatever he had gone through must have been a difficult ordeal.
"Do you want something to drink? Or are you hungry?" I asked instead of questioning him about his work.
"Do I look that tired to you?" he replied before his beautiful lips curved into a smile. I didn’t want to lie, so I simply nodded my head in affirmation.
"I’m not hungry and I don’t exactly want to drink, but instead I’d appreciate it if you could hear me out for a bit," the prince said, and suddenly his expression was stern.
"Is something wrong?" I asked with concern. The way that Prince Leonard was hesitating told me that he had some kind of bad news to deliver. Suddenly, I started to feel very anxious as I waited for the prince to reveal what was on his mind.
