Chapter 107: Wandering Thoughts
I began wondering what Mila was doing and everything else just sort of faded away.
It’s evening now, I wonder if she’d decided on which dress to wear for the evening as instructed by my note. I made sure that many dresses were sent to her room so hopefully, she likes at least one of them. I have to admit that doing something like sending these gifts wasn’t like me at all. However, before I could stop myself, I had already issued the order for the newest trendy clothes to be sent to her room. Mila does look very attractive and cute in her maid uniform; however, it would be a nice change to see her in something else sometimes.
After this old man is done with his rambling, I should excuse myself before I die of boredom. Although I understood what Lord Baldirius is trying to do, I had to say that I didn’t appreciate it one bit. Moving his only daughter into the palace with the plan to marry her off to me or one of the princes if that failed in order to benefit his political career and the standings of his family is just purely disgusting at best. My eyes fell on Regina’s uncomfortable face as her father continued to praise her skills in various areas that I have completely lost all track of.
The saddest part in all of this was that I knew that Regina didn’t have a choice but to go along with her father for his sake and the sake of maintaining their family’s position. I also didn’t blame the prime minister for being ambitious in his career because it was only natural. Noblemen offering up their daughters to serve the royal family wasn’t anything new in this country although it is an idea that should have been outdated a long time ago.
To make matters worse, many women that happened to pass the screening process ended up becoming honorable maidens. Regardless of what they are called, they are nothing more than potential breeders and tools to satisfy an alpha’s lust with the hope that some miracle would occur, and an ultimate alpha would be born.
“Prince Leonard?” Regina called my name.
She must have figured out that I had already stopped paying attention to her and her father. I forced a smile before forcing my attention back to what was happening in front of me. Lord Baldirius must have been done with all his self-promotion of his daughter. The old man stood up from his seat and began excusing himself.
“Well, I don’t want to take up any more of your time. I have duties starting very early tomorrow morning so I should take my leave now. Thank you so much for your time, Your Highness. I hope that we can have dinner together like this again soon,” Lord Baldirius said before he nodded at me.
“Thank you for your invitation...” I replied as I tried my best to sound polite.
