Chapter 16: Night for Mating
“That will be all. Head back to your room now,” she said before walking out the door.
I followed after her out of the room and after going our separate ways, I headed back to my room in the maid quarters. The moonlight shining in through the window provided more lighting to the hallway. It looks like it’s going to be a full moon soon. Perhaps it was just my own imagination, but I thought that the moon never looked as beautiful or as big as it did from where I saw it back at the orphanage. Although it wasn’t a full moon yet, the moon here in this kingdom looked much larger than the moon that I observed from the windows of the orphanage.
Looking down from the window that I walked past, I could see the garden below with its vast maze of rose bushes. It was dark and I couldn’t make out many details or colors, but I already knew that the roses were a deep dark red. It was evening, the sun was down so as per the rules, I should hurry and head back to my room. The palace seemed to be a very secure place and there were many guards around so I had hard time believing that there could be any real danger.
Rules are rules.
I continued down the hallway until I came to a large balcony. Moonlight shone in brightly from the large double door leading to the balcony outside. As I got closer to the balcony, I started hearing strange sounds that made my body freeze from fear.
Is something there?
The sound I heard sounded like an animal growling...
My feet refused to move, and I was stricken with fear. However, if there’s a wild animal here, I should call the guards to handle it before it wrecks damage or harms someone, right?
What should I do?
