Chapter 592 - 9.62 I Am Dying
"The virus in you has mutated," Zhao Bolin said as he watched Lu Yizhou walking back and forth to clean up the broken glass and spilled water. He had a sudden urge to laugh. Who could have guessed that a zombie would be so proficient in housekeeping? "Of course, it’s only a speculation. But right now, I am more than 85% certain."
"Let’s see..." Professor Zhao leaned back into the pillow and counted with his fingers. "Your control over your zombie instinct has weakened, you can feel yourself getting more powerful, and the same thing also applies to your minions. And now you can also speak! In my opinion, there are only two possible outcomes of this. Do you want to know?" Not even giving Lu Yizhou any time to reply, Zhao Bolin continued seamlessly, "First, you will lose your ’consciousness’ and become a pure predator who only relies on instinct. Second, you will control your inner zombie, defeat it and make it a part of yourself and become a new superior species."
The more Zhao Bolin talked about it, the more excited he became. "The two outcomes will lead to one thing: evolution! Just like Charles Darwin’s theory, the inferior species will be eliminated gradually over time through natural selection! If you’re not strong enough to brace a new era, then you can only go extinct!"
Lu Yizhou shot him a speechless look. Did this man even realize what he was saying? He talked about the elimination of inferior species so easily as though he was not included in that particular category. It was just like how someone excitedly predicted they would die a horrible death in the future and could still put a smile on their face.
"A-ah, I know that look." Zhao Bolin tutted. "You must be thinking, ’Is this man crazy? Did he not realize that he will be included in that natural selection as well?’ Am I right?" He revealed a satisfied grin like a cat who got the cream.
Lu Yizhou could not even bother to reply. He tied the broken fragments with a cloth and went downstairs to dispose of it. When he returned to the bedroom, Zhao Bolin had changed from his proper position to having his head hung upside down on the edge of the bed with his long hair spread all over the floor. He appeared to be deep in thought and failed to notice Lu Yizhou’s arrival.
Lu Yizhou paused on the doorway and lowered his eyelids to hide the emotions brewing within. Honestly, his mind was an utter mess. Everything had been spiraling out of control and he had no idea how to get it back on track. This world appeared quite simple at first glance. As long as he stayed by Zhao Bolin’s side and protected him from the two protagonists, then his mission should have been completed. However, Lu Yizhou had a notion that everything could not be so simple.
...Because in the end of the original plot, the world would welcome its destruction.
Right now, they had two uncontrollable variants, Li Zhu and Yang Tengfei. Lu Yizhou had already dealt with the latter and was confident that Yang Tengfei would not be able to get out of bed for at least half a year. And he did not violate the rule because he did not kill the protagonist himself! As for Li Zhu... there was no way he could have completed the vaccine without the help of Lu Yizhou’s blood. His effort was doomed to fail from the start.
