It was purely due to Lu Yizhou’s request that Ellen allowed these two strangers into his room. If Sister Chen were to catch wind of this, no doubt she would get another heart attack. It seemed like Ellen could forgo all of his principles as long as it involved Lu Yizhou. How infuriating!
He stared at the two people with utmost caution and grabbed Lu Yizhou’s shirt tighter, ready to drag him away as soon as these people showed the slightest bit of provocation. "I don’t know you," he said coldly.
The man who introduced himself as Cyrus did not seem offended by Ellen’s unwelcoming demeanor. As for the silent man beside him, Ellen found that he could not read anything from that deadpan face. These two people should be unfamiliar to him yet as soon as he saw them, strange emotions surged up in Ellen’s chest. If he did not know himself better, he would think that it was... happiness.
He, happy to see them? Ellen snorted for how ridiculous it was.
He shoved the useless emotions deep inside his chest. Those feelings were unnecessary. No matter how Ellen’s heart told him to trust these two men, his defensive personality would not allow him to lower his guard just like that. He had been through a lot and would not so easily trust in his own feelings. Feelings could be manipulated and Ellen would not let himself be fooled the second time.
...He trusted no one but Lu Yizhou in this world. And because Lu Yizhou seemed to trust them, Ellen would give him face and tolerate their presence.
"It’s okay," Cyrus said good-naturedly. "I didn’t expect you to remember. Actually we are not here to talk about old times." He turned to Lu Yizhou and directly got to the point. "I have the information you needed."
Lu Yizhou nodded and led them to sit on the couch. He and Ellen occupied one whereas Cyrus and Luan sat opposite them. All the time, Ellen stared at the two of them in vigilance as though fearing that they would pounce at Lu Yizhou at any moment. Lu Yizhou had no idea whether to laugh or cry. "Do you want to stay here and listen to us?"
"Of course!" Ellen harrumphed coldly. "This is my room. Why should I go?"
