Chapter 481 - 8.81 Big Liar*
Compared to his suave appearance earlier, Ellen was more laid-back and relaxed now.
His furry coat had disappeared to God-knows-where, and he had tugged his tie loose, the top two buttons undone to show a flash of unblemished jade skin. His hair was windswept and a bit messy, yet it framed his lovely face even more gorgeously. The thin layer of make-up on it was still intact, accentuating his high cheekbones and delicate eyebrows. From such a close distance, he looked even more dazzling.
Lu Yizhou simply couldn’t get used to how beautiful his lover was no matter how many times he had seen him.
His heart almost leapt out of his chest, yearning to go to where it belonged. However, he firmly held himself back. Not because he did not want to, but the gaze Ellen sent him was still the same as earlier. It was that frosty, estranged, almost unfamiliar gaze. It was like he was looking at a total stranger.
Lu Yizhou had been through seven worlds, had seen seven different versions of his lover, yet never before had he been the recipient of such a look. It was like someone had doused icy water over his head and his heart was squeezed so tightly it was hard to breathe. He felt mildly nauseous, though he couldn’t ascertain whether it was due to the nerves or the ship that kept buoying freely on the surface of the sea.
He swallowed thickly. "Do you... remember me?"
Ellen gave him a slow blink. His gaze was plainly scrutinizing as he pondered on the question. Lu Yizhou’s breathing had completely failed him as he waited for the answer that came five seconds later. "Hmm... should I?"
"Oh..." Lu Yizhou lowered his gaze, despondent. A heavy lump formed on his throat. His eyes felt faintly stinging but the more he thought about it, the more unreasonable he felt he was. So what if he did not remember you, he tried to tell himself. All Lu Yizhou should do was to get close to him and break through his armor, again and again. Just like how he always did before. He nodded stiffly in acquiescence and the voice that came out of his mouth sounded strained even to his own ears. "It’s an honor to make your acquaintance. My name is Lu Yizhou."
"Lu Yizhou..." Ellen drawled out lazily. He took one step after another, getting closer and closer but Lu Yizhou just could not bring himself to look up. He was afraid to see that kind of gaze again, just thinking of it was already painful enough like a yawning hole had been dug on his chest.
