"Almost all of our spies are dead, Boss." That was the first thing Kaede reported early in the morning even before Moshe had the chance to sip his coffee. "I have told the others to lay low but at this rate, they will be found sooner or later. You’re right, Zion is still alive. There’s no way Hector, this rabid dog, will move so fast without his master’s order."
Moshe’s face darkened. He pressed his lips into thin lines and decided. "Pull back." Sacrifice was necessary sometimes. They couldn’t forsake the whole tree just because a branch was caught on fire. Kaede knew it too that’s why he nodded despite his unwillingness to leave anyone behind.
A somber mood enveloped them for a while. Then Kaede recalled what he had originally been ordered to do. "Here’s the thing you ask for, Boss." He pushed a flash drive in front of Moshe. A scowl appeared on his face. "I have seen the footage. Aiden had indeed crossed paths with Zion and the two tussled for a while. Was it truly a coincidence, Boss? I personally think he’s quite suspicious. Are you going to do something?"
Moshe recalled the predicament Aiden was in right now and couldn’t help chuckling. "He has already received punishment for his bad behavior."
Somehow Kaede had a feeling that he didn’t want to ask too much about it.
Moshe took the flash drive and stood up. "Tell the men monitoring Hector to pull away. It’s futile to tail him any longer. Now that Zion’s whereabouts is unknown, his level of caution will be the highest. We will just make unnecessary sacrifices if we continue like that." He proceeded to walk to the door. "Continue to search for Zion. I don’t believe that he will drop out of our radar just like that. Someone must have been covering for him."
"Okay, Boss!" Looking at his boss’ light yet hurried steps, Kaede couldn’t resist asking. "Where are you going, Boss?"
