Chapter 5- Betrayed
Three Weeks Prior...

"Two of our third ranks were found dead just two nights ago," Carlos, my beta, reported. "It wasn't pretty."
I gritted my teeth, anger simmering just beneath the surface. "Silver Hollow seems to be growing more brazen by the day."
"It's a direct message, a threat."
"That much is obvious," I growled, my hands clenched into fists. "But if that bastard thinks he can take Howlcreek as if it's some souvenir, he's sorely mistaken."
I stood up, my head suddenly swimming. The headaches had become more frequent. "Double the patrols at the borders. I want every inch of our territory watched. Anyone not part of Howlcreek that steps foot here dies on sight. No questions, no mercy."
Carlos nodded. "Understood. I'll inform the enforcers."
I paced behind my desk. "And I want scouts sent to Silver Hollow's borders. We need eyes on them, twenty-four-seven. I won't let them make the first move again. We hit them before they even think about it."
Carlos gave a sharp nod, already reaching for his phone to relay the orders. The others in the room stood rigid, waiting for further instruction. I opened my mouth to speak again, but a sharp pain sliced through my head.
I paused, frowning, and lifted my hand to my temple. The headache had been gnawing at me for days, but this was different. Stronger.
