Chapter 171 – A New Gate Opens
Sylvia stood amidst the ruins of the battlefield, dark mist slowly receding, leaving behind thin but distinct traces of death energy. Beside her, Alicia and Stacia were still chatting casually, as if the recent events were nothing more than a short training session.
"I thought the gods would be more creative," muttered Stacia as she shut her book with a snap. "Just one giant sword that got deflected right away. Disappointing."
Alicia smiled softly, her blue lantern flame still swaying gently in the air, casting a calm light on her serene face. "Maybe they’re just testing us. This could’ve been merely a warm-up."
Sylvia exhaled lightly, her gaze turned to the sky, now clear again but harboring hidden threats behind its white clouds. "If they want to keep testing our limits, I don’t mind. But we can’t just keep waiting for the next attack. We need to take the initiative."
Stacia raised an eyebrow, slightly intrigued. "Take the initiative how? You have a plan?"
Sylvia nodded slowly. "Of course. It’s time we take the next step. This world is becoming unstable. Before everything spirals out of control, we need to gather more information on what the gods are truly planning."
Alicia spun her lantern gently, the blue flame flaring slightly brighter. "So where do we start?"
"From the place closest to their heaven," Sylvia replied firmly. "We’re heading to Velthya. That city’s connected to many trade routes and minor temples. It could be our gateway to uncover the truth."
"Velthya?" Stacia grinned. "So, we’re heading back to your little affair?"

"There’s no affair! I’ve never cheated on Sofia," Sylvia replied flatly, but with a hint of panic because while she hadn’t cheated, she was a bit captivated by Velthya.
Stacia and Alicia giggled lightly.
The three of them left the battlefield ruins, walking slowly toward the road that led to the city. The remaining zombies followed them silently, their steps filled with reverence.
