Chapter 323: You all look pretty rough.
--Friday, July 31, 2172
“They're finally here!”
Under the fading light of sunset, just before nightfall, Ryuko stood waiting with her hands on her hips, staring at the forest, as the students began to slowly emerge one by one. The students looked tired, sore, dirty, and covered in scratches and minor wounds. At the back, Shino, who was standing with Aizawa, couldn't help but comment with an amused smile.
“That took quite a while…”
“What do you mean three hours?!” In the middle of the exhausted group, Sato couldn't help but shout at the sky, filled with indignation. Shino laughed in amusement and explained.
“That's how long it would have taken us. Kai arrived several hours ago.”
“Now that's just showing off…” Sato couldn't help but comment, lying flat on the ground with his limbs spread out, completely spent. Kirishima, who was sitting on the ground, shouted into the air, visibly drained.
“I'm starving! I'm going to die!”
“Same here… I used my quirk too much without my supplements…”
Momo commented as the armor on her body crumbled to dust, revealing her tired, sweat-covered face. At that moment, Aizawa looked at the wrecked group and spoke in a flat voice.
“Enough talking. Your things are inside. Get them settled in your rooms—we'll have dinner in the cafeteria. After that, you'll bathe and go to sleep. Real training starts tomorrow. Move.”
After speaking, Aizawa walked into the enormous building behind him, none other than the mountain camp. Shino and Ryuko quickly followed him with amused smiles, leaving the students staring at each other with helpless expressions. Meanwhile, Momo let out a heavy sigh and walked inside, prompting the rest of the students to quickly follow.
…
Upon entering, the first thing everyone saw was Kai dressed in a sports set, sitting comfortably on a massage sofa with a laptop on his lap and his cats sleeping at his feet. Seeing Kai so relaxed—typing on the computer with one hand and eating chips and lemonade with the other—the group couldn't help but freeze, a flood of feelings of injustice swelling in their chests.
“You all look pretty rough.”
Feeling their stares, Kai looked up and commented with a calm smile, which caused everyone's expressions to twist. For her part, Momo walked over confidently, sat on the armrest of Kai's chair, took his lemonade, and drank it all in one long gulp before letting out a satisfied gasp.
“Hehe, I'll get you a strawberry milkshake later.” As the others swallowed dryly, Momo couldn't help but laugh at Kai's slightly furrowed brow and commented with a smile. Kai smiled happily, picked up a chip, and replied.
“We'll eat later. First, go change—your things are already in your room.”
“Thank you.”
Momo replied with a smile before giving Kai a kiss on the cheek and walking with lighter steps toward the rooms. The rest of the group, feeling even more bitter, could only drag their feet and follow after Momo.
…
…
…
““Itadakimasu!!””
In the cafeteria overflowing with food, several of the young people shouted in unison and began devouring food like starving ghosts, barely chewing before swallowing. Meanwhile, the girls ate with small tears in their eyes, alongside Momo. But at that moment, Mina couldn't help but look over at Kai—who was eating with one hand and typing on his computer with the other—and ask.
“Why won't Saito put down the computer…? Is something wrong?”
“… He's just working on an important project.”
Upon hearing the question, Momo couldn't help but let out a small sigh and replied while gazing at her beloved with concern. Since that night when he had promised to go to therapy, he had been like this—working every second without stopping, barely finding time to train in the mornings and spend time with them at night. It was several times worse than what he normally did, to the point where all of them were beginning to doubt whether the therapy idea had been a good one after all.
Mina watched Kai for a few seconds before looking back at Momo's worried expression and falling into a thoughtful silence. Jiro, eating happily, commented with a visibly satisfied smile.
“This food is delicious—some of the best I've ever had.”
“You're all just starving; it's nothing special. Though, enjoy it; today is the only day we'll be waiting on you.” At that moment, Ryuko, passing by with a tray piled high with food, couldn't help but comment with an amused smile.
“Thank you!!”
Several of the young people in the room called out in unison as Kai picked up Salem's head in his smallest form—the cat had been trying to slip a piece of meat onto his plate—and then commented.
“Stop doing that; I'm not sick.”
Salem meowed back a couple of times, which made Kai roll his eyes and reply.
“That's training; it doesn't mean I'm sick.”
Salem meowed again, visibly skeptical, to which Kai replied with a more authoritative tone.
“I told you it's training, and it's training. Stop being foolish and go eat with Tama.”
Salem meowed once more and left the meat, then jumped off and ran to the corner where Tama was waiting for him with large amounts of meat and kibble. Meanwhile, Mina couldn't help but look at Momo and ask, visibly confused.
“Can Kai understand animals…?”
“He says he can't, but as you can see, that's not very convincing…” Momo replied with an amused smile. Jiro soon commented with curiosity.
“Now that I think about it, Saito's cats are incredibly intelligent. How did he get them? They must have cost a fortune.”
“Actually, no. The Pussycats gave Salem to Kai when he was just a kitten, on our sixth birthday. And Tama, he adopted her recently because Salem found her on the street, took a liking to her, and she became his wife.” Momo commented with a smile, which led Tsuyu to open her eyes in surprise and ask.
“The black cat is 10 years old…?”
“Hm? Yeah, more or less.” Momo nodded with a smile, which led Mina to comment in surprise while watching the cat eat cheerfully.
“He doesn't look that old… He doesn't look more than two or three years old…”
“Hmm?” At the comment, Momo couldn't help but look at her with a bit of surprise, then spoke with a tone of realization.
“You're right, Salem is already pretty old, but he's very active. It seems like he's going to live a long time…”
In the end, Momo couldn't help but show a happy smile as her gaze alternated between the black cat with blue eyes and her beloved with black hair and blue eyes. Although she loved that pair of silly cats, she knew better than anyone how important Salem was to Kai. He truly loved that cat, and if Salem were to die, it would be a very hard blow for Kai—so the fact that Salem would live a long time was a good thing.
…
…
…
After eating, the girls headed together to the bath, where they undressed and began bathing together after Momo told them to go ahead as she had something to take care of. But among the girls bathing with laughter, Mina poured a bucket of water over her head while letting out a somewhat strange laugh, full of hidden motives.
“Huhu.”
“Why are you laughing like that? What are you planning?”
Hearing Mina, Jiro couldn't help but turn to look at Mina beside her and ask with narrowed eyes. The smile on the beautiful pink-skinned girl's face looked far too perverted—more like something Kaminari would do, not a cute girl like her.
“Huhu, after waiting so long, the day has finally come…”
Mina replied with an almost “villainous” smile, wiping drool from her chin as she squeezed her hand in the air. With a furrowed brow, Jiro covered her chest and stepped back slightly in her seat while asking.
“What are you planning to do?”
“Yao Momo always uses her quirk to change, so I've never been able to see anything, but today is different. Yao Momo agreed to bathe with us, so finally, after all this time, I have free rein to look at and squeeze that pair of melons, fufu. The injustice of that pair of juicy fruits belonging only to Saito ends today!”
Mina exclaimed with a perverted smile, her eyes shining as she stared at the bathroom entrance, which caused Jiro and Uraraka to take a preventive step backward while Tsuyu and Toru watched the entrance with curiosity.
Just at that moment, the traditional sliding door opened, revealing a beautiful young woman with black hair in a white bathrobe, who couldn't help but ask in confusion upon seeing the others' expressions.
“What's going on? Why are you all looking at me like that?”
“N-nothing, don't pay them any attention, Yao Momo. Come here; I saved you a spot.” Mina said with a nervous smile while patting the seat to her right. Momo smiled cheerfully and shook her head, then explained.
“There's no need—I already took a quick shower, so I'll keep you company for a bit in the hot springs before heading back.”
“I'll come with you; I'm already done!”
Mina replied cheerfully as she poured one more bucket of hot water over herself while the others watched her with strange expressions. Momo nodded casually and walked toward the natural hot spring pool.
“Then let's go.”
Like a fly, Mina rubbed her hands together full of excitement and soon jumped into the hot springs, drawing a small laugh from Momo, who removed her bathrobe and set it aside before dipping one foot into the water. But while a satisfied smile formed on Momo's face, an expression screaming disappointment and betrayal formed on Mina's face, who couldn't help but ask on the verge of tears as the other girls laughed in amusement.
“Yao Momo… Why are you wearing a swimsuit…? I thought we were going to bathe together…”
“And we will—I'm just shy, so I'll wear a swimsuit…” Momo commented as she sank into the hot springs, letting out a comfortable sigh at the end. With tears welling in her eyes, Mina looked at Momo and spoke full of grievance.
“It's not fair… I looked forward to this so much… This is not fair!! Those gigantic breasts are mine today, Yao Momo!”
“What are you saying? Did you hit your head, or did Kaminari infect you with something?” Momo covered her chest and asked in confusion at Mina's sudden outburst, to which Mina quickly replied, radiating an aura of absolute disappointment, feeling betrayed by the world.
“I didn't hit anything! I just want to squeeze that pair of huge breasts! It's not fair that they're only for Saito—I want some too!”
“Then squeeze your own; I'm an engaged woman.” Momo replied visibly on the defensive, covering her chest and retreating slightly. Mina squeezed her own breasts—the second largest in the class—and replied with a sad pout.
“They're not as big… I want to squeeze those massive mountains and play with them a lot!”
“Kaminari definitely infected you with something. Later I'll have Kai examine you. My breasts are only for my husband and for feeding my children—I'm not letting you touch them.” Momo commented in a serious tone, which dealt a fatal blow to Mina, who dramatically fell back into the water while cursing at the sky.
“Saito, I curse you!!”
At that precise instant, the air grew heavy and dangerous for a moment before returning to normal. This caused Mina to sit straight up and shout in a panic at the sky.
“I'm sorry, Saito, I didn't mean it!”
“Hmph.”
An annoyed snort resonated from the other side of the divider of the pool, which made Mina sink into the water with fear. Meanwhile, the other girls laughed in amusement and got into the water. But Toru and Uraraka approached Momo, and Uraraka asked in a slightly worried voice.
“Yao Momo… Can Saito see us through the divider…?”
“Hmm, not so much 'see' as 'sense' us—but it's only our position, not our bodies. Don't worry.” Momo replied with a calm, confident smile, which caused the pair of girls to look around nervously, prompting Momo to explain calmly.
“You really have nothing to worry about. For Kai's quirk, clothing and such don't make a difference—he always senses the same thing. I confirmed that a long time ago. Unless he looks at us directly with his own eyes, what he senses with his quirk is a vague image of people, with a unique resonance that he can identify.”
“So he didn't actually see me before…?” Toru asked in a shy voice, which put a somewhat complicated smile on Momo's face, leading Toru to comment amid bubbles as the water around her shifted.
“He did see me with his own eyes…”
“I'm sorry…” Momo apologized in an embarrassed voice. Toru soon replied in a calmer voice.
“Don't worry. Even though it makes me very embarrassed, I trust Saito. I know it wasn't his fault, and he wouldn't look at me in a perverted way. Besides, I never really saw him looking directly at me beyond when we were fighting.”
“That's a relief.” Momo commented in a relieved voice, at which point Tsuyu couldn't help but remark with curiosity.
“Though I'd like to see what Toru-chan looks like…”
“I could ask Kai to draw you—he's quite good at it… But I don't know if you'd feel comfortable with that.”
Momo commented carefully while looking at the spot where the water shifted in an unusual way. At that moment, Toru's voice, filled with emotion and a little fear and nervousness, echoed through the bath.
“C-could you really do that? I can only get a general idea of what I look like using powders or paint, never a clear drawing…”
“Of course—I'll ask him tomorrow.” Momo commented with a strange knot in her throat, a feeling all the girls shared.
