I had never imagined my daughter would face such a betrayal in her life. We took all kinds of precautions regarding her and the people she dated.
Andy had stuck me as a decent man. His father, Lawson, had collaborated with us; we were business partners.
I failed to understand how everything fell apart.
We had raised Arata to be a strong girl, capable of making her own decisions. But this incident broke her heart and I found myself as helpless as I did when pregnant Skyla was taken from me.
The pain that erupted in my heart, seeing her cry in my arms, flowed like a torrent of anguish, and I wished to end the man responsible then and there.
I had promised myself that no one would hurt my family and walk away. I intended to keep that promise.
And the agonising crisis that followed was that she left home. We had never been apart, and I knew one day she would get married and make her home elsewhere, still, I was not ready for it.
I had always known that most men were monsters. Skyla and I had witnessed their atrocities firsthand and no way was I prepared for my children to go through them.
That’s why we had always been extra protective of our kids. The world was a scary place and we ensured to give our children a safe space to grow up.
But when Kael revealed the hateful words Andy had spewed towards Arata, it opened a whole new perspective for me. I understood why Arata wished to distance herself from us.
