Chapter 8: Coffee And The Blue Tie

That had to be the oddest interview ever. I stared at him for a few more seconds than was necessary, in case he was joking.

He wasn't.

He picked up a file from the side and opened it, directing his eyes to it, ignoring my existence.

I was still trying to wrap my mind around what he had said. His assertive tone wasn't condescending when he spoke again but it reminded me that he absolutely meant every word he had spoken.

"You have 14 minutes and 23 seconds left. Are you going to waste them by staring at me? I won't give extra time for that." He flipped the page with his long fingers and continued to read the file.

How did he even measure the exact time? The man was a mystery and I had to tear my eyes off him. The knots tightened further as I stood up and excused myself. He gave me a curt nod, still keeping his eyes on the page he was reading.

I rushed out of his office, clutching my file and bag. Where was I going to find a blue tie and a coffee in 14 minutes?

That was called crisis management and this was the first step. To make contacts and learn how to handle situations where random tasks were thrown at you.

Luckily, Miranda was still waiting for me outside as I emerged like a tornado of disasters, file slipping from my slimy hands.

She gave me a sympathetic look as the door clicked shut behind me and compassionately asked.
