Chapter 50: Feel Free to Uncover the Puzzles
Lariette lay on her back on the soft mattress, her luscious chocolate-brown hair splayed on the satin pillow sheet. Her chest rose and fell in a steady rhythm yet, showed no signs of sleepiness.
One part of the windows wasn’t concealed by the curtain, allowing the moonlight to filter through the glass. Its radiance illuminated the dimmed bedroom and the slender figure on the bed.
Lariette’s sapphire blue eyes lay on the ceiling, her thoughts whirling to replay the end of her conversation with Ruediger on the rooftop earlier.
"Lettie, you won’t have to worry about him again. He’ll leave this country soon."
Ruediger’s voice, velvety and hoarse at the same time, reassured Lariette as if he was trying to diminish her lingering concern about the situation.
Under the soft fairy lights of the arch, his expression remained comforting and gentle—the same look she had been accustomed to from him.
Without hesitating, Lariette voiced her thoughts. Being surrounded by the calm night, she became truthful with Ruediger, a man she had been getting close to recently.
"You kept surprising me tonight, Eddy. From your close friendship with Mr. Nathaniel to your plan to chase Damien away. You seem a little more mysterious now." "
Lariette swiftly added after a long pause, her eyes remained on Ruediger’s face.
"Well, I guess it’s true I haven’t known you well. We immediately got married after all."
Ruediger’s answer to Lariette’s frankness was a mellow smile, followed by soft chuckles. The melody blended with the faint echoes of vehicles moving around down below.
