Chapter 109 - Uncommon Storage
Time flew by quickly. A month had passed since Karl started bringing Layla to work at the convenience store. Their routine flowed like a calm river—mornings at the convenience store, nights in Karl’s small apartment, filled with casual conversations and soft laughter that filled the emptiness of their days.
Layla slowly began to open herself up to the outside world. Although the shadows of her past still haunted her, Karl’s presence by her side served as an anchor, keeping her steady. They shared laughter amidst their busy schedules, reminded each other to eat on time, and sometimes enjoyed instant meals together on the living room floor.
However, beneath that calm surface, Karl felt something stirring behind the scenes. The world seemed to be ticking toward something inevitable—a disaster that would erase everything they knew.
One night, Karl and Layla were sitting on the small balcony of Karl’s apartment, gazing at the night sky, which seemed darker than usual. The city lights flickered weakly in the distance. Suddenly, a knock on the door shattered the silence.
Karl opened the door and found Valencia standing there in her long black coat, her face like an unyielding stone carving.
"We need to talk, Karl," Valencia said bluntly.
Inside the apartment, Valencia stared sharply at Karl and Layla.
"In one more month, everything will change. I’ve already relocated your family to a safe location. Your father was transferred to a branch office in a remote area, and your mother and sibling went with him. They’ll be safe for now."
Karl was silent. He wanted to ask how Valencia managed to arrange all of this, but he already knew the answer: her wealth and influence were beyond ordinary imagination.
"And now," Valencia continued, "we need to prepare you."
The next day, Valencia brought Karl to a secret facility on the outskirts of the city. From the outside, it looked like an old warehouse, but inside was a high-tech training center.
