Chapter 49
Zoey straight up cut off Chloe’s words "I’m just friends with Karl, okay?" and then she bounced. Once Zoey left, Chloe strutted her stuff to her new apartment. When she got there, she was greeted by Amber, her fellow Homo Obscura friend who was busy unpacking. Amber immediately sensed Chloe’s confused expression.
"Hey, Chloe! You look weird. What’s up?" Amber asked with a smile.
Chloe shook her head and gave a small smile, trying to hide her confusion. "Oh, I just bumped into Zoey in the hallway. She just came out of Karl’s apartment. I don’t really know what’s going on, but... it feels weird seeing her there."
Amber furrowed her brow. "You mean Karl who works at the same place as us?"
"Yeah, turns out he lives in the same building as us too," Chloe replied.
Chloe smiled and sighed. "Turns out, Karl isn’t some earth-shattering behavior-changing man. He’s just good at covering himself up. Damn, I thought he was just a lonely weeb with no life, turns out he’s a cheater too."
Amber nodded in agreement. "Thank goodness Karl isn’t that guy, even though being a cheater is still not cool, at least he’s not controlling people’s behaviors."
Chloe finally felt at ease. "True. Maybe I was overthinking it. Karl actually seems pretty normal when you look closer. I might have just misjudged," she said more casually.
Amber laughed again, reassuring Chloe. "That’s the spirit! Besides, Zoey looks like a total flirt. She knows which guys are easy to tempt."
Chloe smiled, nodding firmly. "You’re right. Zoey might just be fooling around with Karl, I’ve got no reason to worry."
