I Will Be the Greatest Knight

Chapter 144: They’re Here

With Gunnar’s announcement, all hands were sent to the highest tower where they lined the halls to greet the Royal Family and the knights who had accompanied them on that journey.

The large front entrance of the tower was pushed open and, Irene was shocked to see that a knight had gotten a runner out of the carriage to unroll so that the passengers wouldn’t even have to step foot in the snow and their shoes wouldn’t be dirtied.

Considering how the floors were cleaned for their arrival as well, it made it seem as if the Royals weren’t allowed to touch dirty things.

The thoughts caused Irene’s gaze to momentarily drop and she observed her brown boots that were worn from much work. She only ever got a new pair when her feet were getting bigger. So far, she had to change boots twice in the past couple of years but there was no one to give hers to because no one had smaller feet than her in the knighthood.

Irene’s gaze snapped up when a deep voice filled the space. One of the knights had removed his helmet to announce the arrival.

"His Highness the Crown Prince Albert the Second of Peroda. Her Highness, Princess Marie of Peroda."

What Irene first noticed was how glistening and pristine the knight’s armor was even after weeks of travel as the Royals slowly made their way to the north. The metal was clearly more pure and refined than what the knights up north were using. However, it also begged the question if it was stronger than what the Knights of Tenetium wore.

While she didn’t doubt the skill of the King’s knights, the sword on the man’s hip also looked a bit more gilded than was necessary for battle.

Admiring the knight didn’t last long because soon light blonde and ever lighter blonde filled the doorway as the Royals removed their hoods. It was as if their hair was made of gold and Irene couldn’t help being in awe.
