I Will Be the Greatest Knight

Chapter 141: Cleaning Up

Unaware of what unfolded, Irene realized the winter didn’t feel quite as cold as the one previously despite how serious her duties had become. Felix began speaking to her a little more, although still not as much as he used to, and it seemed that she was more respected by people overall since Sir Gunnar announced that she was his apprentice.

Outdoor duties took them all the way to days before the Royal Family was supposed to arrive. It certainly distracted her from the stress of having to escort such important people.

Irene noticed throughout the entire tower that changes were being made to accommodate the high profile guests. Not only were things cleaned and dusted to the best of the maid’s abilities, but some of the tapestries that lined the walls had been replaced with ones far brighter and boasting the colors that honored the Royal Family. Rather than the reds of the Arlin’s family crest, purples and golds took their place. The chandeliers throughout the Duke’s Tower had also been cleaned so that the bronze metal looked as if it was entirely replaced.

Irene and Leif walked through the hallway before entering the dining hall for breakfast. Their heads swiveled as they took in all the new details.

"Makes us seem like chopped liver in comparison to the Royals," Leif realized as he reached for the large wooden door’s handle. "They don’t care about the cobwebs in the highest corners of the ceiling all that much."

"It isn’t as if this place is ever messy," Irene insisted. "It’s merely just a little better now. Have you ever met one of the Royals?"

"Never," Leif admitted. "The most important person I’ve met is Earl Auden who was on his way back from Hydrogia. I thought that’s as close as I would come to the King, but now we’re meeting the Princess and Crown Prince."

"I’ve never met anyone like that," Irene responded in awe.
