Chapter 111: Unexpected Visitor
Sir Gunnar had been handling the issue with the body found in the mountains, but he was nearly done when he heard a disturbance towards the front of the castle.
Sprinting his way there, he was shocked to hear Lady Rochelle shouting about one of the knights, however, it was no wonder considering the man had remained there instead of going to his family home where they were undoubtedly worrying about him.
It was no mystery to anyone in the knighthood how Rochelle felt about the knight’s career. In fact, she never held back when it came to her distaste.
However, to come all the way to the Duke’s Tower was a new development that she had never attempted before.
What struck Sir Gunnar the most was the horrified expression on Irene’s face. He rushed down to lead Leif and Felix toward the dining hall where they were supposed to be in the first place.
Despite how nervous she was that her mother had likely almost outed her in front of a hallway full of people, Irene approached Arne who she wrapped her arms around and pulled him further into the hallway. Whatever was going on seemed to be very much between their parents.
Meanwhile, Sir Arthur subtly tucked his right arm behind his back. He wasn’t wearing the prosthetic at that moment considering how early it was in the day and he didn’t quite want to break the news to his wife or son in such a way.
"Perhaps we ought to go to the Duke’s Study," Arthur suggested, knowing the ever elusive Duke was still holed up in the upper levels. The Duke’s not bothering to even make an appearance when he was injured which only further raised eyebrows regarding his illness.
Arthur gently guided his wife with his left hand, but she slapped it away from her and walked down the hallway in the direction he indicated by himself.
The knight glanced over his shoulder and gave Irene a faint nod before he and Rochelle could disappear down that wing of the small castle.
Irene looked down at her brother. How strange it was to see him after two years. Despite their three-year age difference, he was only a little bit shorter than her. How annoying that he would have gotten her father’s height.
