Chapter 20: Voices
Alto was guided to the special room by the cacophony of muffled voices, after gaining access to the room it slid open to reveal a long tunnel lit by beams of powerful light.
Alto gulped down and looked down the hall, he considered it whether it would be safe to go in deeper or simply pull back. The voices still reached his ears and he could not make them out, Alto had always had a curiosity about certain things and this just to happened to fall under that category.
Alto continued to push in deeper down the tunnels, he expected them to go for a long time but it did not take minutes for him to reach the end. Here there was another steel door with its own verification terminal, he pressed down the professors id card on it and the door beeped before opening.
What first shot out of the room was hot steam and the voices now exploded much louder like screams, Alto covered his ears and waited for the steam to clear. When it did he could hear the sound of beeping in short intervals. The room behind the steel door was small, it was in an hexagon shape.
In the middle was what looked like a service pod in the shape of an oval, similar to an egg. It was hooked into an hole in the ground with a number of wires coming in and out of it to many computers. Astounded by the sight Alto came closer to the object and dropped his hands, he was unsure of what he was seeing but he could tell that the voices came from it.
Alto had expected the source of the voices to be from a group of people who had been held hostage against their wills but it came from a pod. From listening to the strange voices they did not sound anything like he had heard before, they sounded like foreign languages or a rage of words clustered together.
"You've seen it now Al, now let's head back." He told himself, trying to quench his curiosity. "It's just a pod, nothing much."
Alto paused for a moment and thought to himself.
Pods were usually transport vehicles but they were only seen in the transport hangers not in secret labs. It made him wonder what the professor was doing with one and how she had acquired it.
