The Greatest Mecha

Chapter 10: The Mech Engineering Department 2

Alto looked at the swirling mass of matter and light and wondered if it was safe to go in but the officer with him had no patience for such as he shoved him in with great force that seemed almost superhuman. Alto's eyes popped from their sockets as he screamed for his dear life. He had heard rumors of people being disintegrated from direct contact with a portal, he always wanted to test it out but not in person.

His body went into the mass of matter and felt a strange electrical jolt bathing him. His eyes were bathed in light for a second before he came out the other end perfectly fine. "Whoa, I thought that could have gone horribly wrong." As if karma chose to intervene he bent to the side and started to empty his internal content to the ground. It was like his stomachs were doing the whirly swirly and it was anything but entertaining.

He then heard the proud snort of the officer that had come with his. "Chicken." Alto did not know how to take those words. Were they insults? And what was a chicken?

After taking a few seconds to recover himself Alto raised his head to see a massive hall, the walls a similar silver shine to the other areas of the building but with a few different, the walls looked messier and carrying stains. There were a number of cabinets, some shut others left open, and a dozen worktables all filled to the brim with a pile of scrap metal and cogs. Alto could also see pieces of Mechs on the floor and around, mech arms, mech torsos and a missile launcher or too. Thought he doubted they loaded or active else why would they be lying around.

Alto hated how unkept the place was but he guessed that the mech designers there were always working to keep things functioning at their best. The only redeeming quality of the room was it's ventilation system that kept the air refreshed.

Come to think of it instead of a hundred or so people working around tirelessly there were only three figures. Alto gasped in shock and gave the officer tha had come with him a question glare.

"Sorry, but are you sure this is the right room?" Alto asked with a nervous hitch in his voice.
