Chapter 6: Change Into Your Battle Suits
A few minutes passed with them walking down the facility grounds, they walked past many rooms with labels on them, no one dared speak or as much as cough they followed the cold officer in eerie silence.
Alto did not show much interest in anything that was until they went past the hanger, they were walking down one of the halls, the walls made of hard steel, to their left was a meter long wall of hard tempered glass and at the other side of the glass was a huge hanger space filled with "MECHS". Alto was not the only one amazed, everyone was. For the first time in Alto's life he felt deeply excited, seeing the mechs beneath, their metal exoskeleton painted and polished in different colours, he could see some engineers taking apart a Mechs arm. He could see some mech pilots testing out the flight system of their mechs. Watching the image of living metal men walking around felt like watching a fashion show with people dressed as Mechs and not in exotic clothing.
Officer Shirley spoke. "This is a rare coincidence, these are all pilots returning from battle to restore their mechs to the most optimum functionality. They will be watching your displays to pass time and perhaps give out some advice to the useful tools here."
Alto could not take his eyes off the huge, small and shiny mechs. He could not wait to slip into the cockpit of one and ride it. And the chance to display his skill before live pilots was exhilarating— a drop of sweat trickled down the side of his face. He felt the pressure double on him. "Don't screw up, don't screw up." He told himself.
Amy noticed his discomfort and slapped him on the chest lightly. "I've got your back so chin up Al." She locked eyes with him and for a moment they softened.
Alto felt his cheek flush but he nodded and said. "Right."
Kram butt his head in their middle and said. "Get a room and hook up already."
They both pulled away from each other leaving Kram to gloat over his deed. They soon reached the examination room where they were lined up before a huge cart with a heap of black suits all piled up. At a corner of the room we're more than a dozen officers working on the computers and terminals not giving the genotes a moment of attention, though there was one or two occasional glares.
Officer Shirley walked forward to meet some of the personnel working on the computers and leaving them with a few words. "I advice you to change into the battle suits as soon as possible, when I return the test will finally begin."
They all stood there for a moment in deep confusion.
