Last night’s call log kept playing in my head as my hands shook a bit while I punched in the numbers on her phone. Who could it be? What would I do if I found out? Anxiety warred with a strange, unsettling excitement.
To my shock, the log was empty. Not just the calls, but all messages and photos were gone. Lily had wiped everything clean.
What now? Figuring out who this mysterious "ex-boyfriend" was had just gotten a whole lot harder, not to mention trying to save Lily from whatever this guy was doing to her.
Why would Lily go out of her way to delete everything? She couldn’t have known I’d witnessed last night. Was she just being cautious? Or was it because being on the phone during... that... was too much to bear?
I couldn’t wrap my head around it, but I was determined to get to the bottom of this and stay with Lily no matter what. Even though I couldn’t see the call logs or get info from the phone company, I had to narrow it down somehow.
If Logan could easily dial that number last night, he probably hadn’t memorized it. It had to be saved on her phone. That meant Lily only deleted the call logs, not the number itself.
Lily’s stunning looks and sweet, cheerful personality made her pretty popular at Celestial University. Even if you ignored the creeps, she had a big circle. Lily was usually pretty reserved and only kept close contacts in her phone, but there were still almost two hundred names.
Who could that ex-boyfriend be? Could it be her advisor, the sixty-something Dr. Martin?
I grabbed a pen from the desk and started jotting down names on a scrap of paper. I crossed off all the women, public phones, East Asians, and non-native English-speaking international students. I could guess the nationality and gender of these names pretty well.
