Chapter 538: The Shame of the Family
The men were executed days ago since all the proof against them was already there.
Sonia and the Head Butler were also supposed to be executed. However, for the sake of Brent and Monica, they were exiled instead.
Brent and Monica were supposed to go with the two. However, the Head Butler’s parents were against it since the children were innocent and still part of the ducal family.
They begged the Duke to allow them to raise the children in a secluded area in the duchy so they wouldn’t remind him of the betrayal of the two.
The Duke agreed as long as the children were taught and raised properly and if the children would rather be with their grandparents instead of their parents.
Sonia was shocked and horrified when Brent and Monica chose to be with their grandparents even if it meant they were to never meet again.
Sonia loved her children so much, but they did not choose her.
With that Sonia and the Head Butler were kicked out of the duchy and forbidden to ever return unless given a pardon.
The Duke originally decided to exile them so Brent and Monica would still grow up with their parents, but even the two young children were embarrassed and felt ashamed because of them. Thus, they decided to be with their grandparents instead.
