I looked out the window watching the fast passing of trees in my peripheral vision, a hand on my jaw, and everything just felt nonexistent. I’m always like this after seeing my mother and each time it breaks my heart.

After the attack on Dace’s engagement by an intruder I was suddenly consumed with worry and took the private jet to go see her. It was a relief knowing she was okay but heartbreaking that there was no improvement in her condition. At least this time she was more calm than ever and slept more. When she woke up she smiled seeing me and asking me how I had been. It was sweet while it lasted until she asked about Dace she panicked again. And begging me to save my dad because he’s in danger.

My mom is a strong woman and has led our clan alongside my dad before his demise for centuries but what happened that night broke her. Something just snapped and she was medically deemed mentally unstable. It seemed like she was still trapped in that moment over and over again and unable to turn away. The very sight of seeing her son ripping her husband’s beating heart out.

Her scream shook everywhere and so did her sanity. My only wish is for her to be okay but I don’t know if she will. She’s in a private institution across the world where she is given the best treatment, but sometimes that kind of treatment takes willpower. But my mom gave up on that after she lost part of her soul.

That is why I’m hesitant to someday find my Male, because if this is what it takes I don’t want it. Living in a world without them and living in a world with them are two different things, especially when the mate bond has been nurtured, when something like that breaks it’s impossible to recover from it.

"We’re here" I turned to the driver. I was so deep in my thoughts I didn’t realize we were now home. Home... It doesn’t feel like it anymore ever since what happened five years ago, like the very life was sucked out of this place with nothing but a dark cloud hanging over it.

Getting down from the car I slammed the door shut and walked to the entrance. I inhaled sharply walking up the stairs. I can’t help but wonder what happened after the engagement was ruined and the intruder and more Emmaline. It has been a constant worry, to be honest.

Emmaline wasn’t like any vampire I have ever met, she seemed more like a human than one, and she was nice too. Which is why when she crashed the engagement party I was worried for her sake, I had to call Singe while I was away and he said she was okay.

Dace didn’t hurt her and that was a relief and also a mystery, Dace hasn’t taken it further than a bite on her shoulder to keep her from escaping and now that makes me question Dace’s plans. Is he really using her for war?

I stopped just at the foyer of my Suite, flung my bag somewhere, and exhaled. I also hope Diana is okay... before I left I stayed with her and thankfully the silver didn’t harm her too badly, but what still caught my thoughts more intensely was that intruder in the midst of chaos. I think he did something to Diana’s wounds because his hand glowed in a strange light.
