"Let me go!" I yelled at him.
"What’s wrong with you... do you have a death wish?!"
At his sharp profound voice, my tantrums ceased and all that was left of me was pulverizing breath and my jerky gaze on his, he watches me closely and I didn’t take my eyes off him either, just the unsteady sound of my breath filled us with a mix of silence, not a sound of words heard, just our gazes conveying things even I can’t fathom but I knew it he was trying to read me, I was a mystery to him just as he is to me, both trying to make measure for something we would both never understand, maybe that was a good thing because of what he is... put not just me but Dace in danger and I didn’t like that.
"Why are you going after them?" his sudden demand brought me back to the mistake I made by acting that way, will a lie even work right now? I have to try... this is my way of protecting Dace from him.
"I-I-I" I began but my choice of words was a mess, not by hesitation just the running I did, the panic, worry, and everything that shot through my body all at once was a drag to my body, I just couldn’t get that wound off my head, I felt like I would crumble to worry if I don’t hold myself, my mark was giving me that vibe also... if it wasn’t for Grayson holding me I would have bolted again, and then what? What if I become a burden to Dace when I get there?
"Emma!"
"I’m worried and scared okay?!" I snapped at him, my breath shaking once more. "There are two beasts now or whatever and I still can’t find my boyfriend, I’m worried he might be wounded or something!" Part truth, part lie, please buy it!
"I called the authorities, they will be here soon," the girl said, coming into view and we darted our eyes at her. "I used the emergency phone" she hugged her arms.
Grayson lets me go. "When they get here tell them it was a bear attack"
"What? I know what I saw!" she half yelled, the terror still evident in her eyes.
"What did you see?!" Grayson snapped at her and she shut her mouth. "You don’t know so why would they believe you?" her lips quivered knowing Grayson’s words were valid, no one will believe us except if we were to tell the supernaturals, and I doubt any authorities coming would be one, but I knew no matter what we try what happened here won’t be exposed, this is Juneau, the law of coexistence was a powerful thing, if they could keep a vampire attack a secret or a coverup then I’m certain this is will be the same too. Maybe Grayson knows that... perhaps that’s why he didn’t flinch to tell me who he was... well because he believes I’m normal.
