Chapter 56 - 55. Between Eggshells
Sarah almost couldn’t leave Helios since Little Bird was clinging to her so much. She even had to eat her dinner there, to Hajin’s displeasure.
But what could he do? They needed Little Bird, and his master didn’t mind spending some time with the girl. If some playtime and dinner bumped their request to the priority list, Sarah would gladly indulge the girl.
It was just...since he wasn’t allowed to be inside, he couldn’t help but feel anxious since it reminded him of what happened in the Circle--even though there was no one but Little Bird in the nest. His expression was so grim and menacing that Lee Sol even offered him a session with the fighters below to relax.
But Hajin did not do what his master didn’t tell him to do, so he just waited outside the nest with a look that could kill. His straight, stiff lips immediately changed into a smile when he heard the sound of Sarah saying goodbye to the clingy Little Bird, however, and it made Sol shudder in fright.
Returning after spending two days at the hotel, the annex almost felt like home despite its unfortunate location. Sarah stretched her arms while making a beeline for the bathroom.
"Phew...I need to take a shower," Sarah stopped and paused when a strong hand held the door handle before she could. She looked up with a slight frown and asked dryly. "What?"
"Can you..." Hajin clenched his jaw; his bowed head made it difficult for Sarah to read his expression, but it was pretty clear from his slightly shaky voice. "Can you not soak today? Just...just take a normal shower?"
Sarah stared at the pale knuckles on the door handle. It almost seemed like the man would break the handle and the keyhole just so he could barge into the bathroom at any time.
"If you can’t, then at least let me stay inside," the grip on the handle loosened as the stern voice turned into resignation. "I won’t look or anything, just--"
"I won’t," Sarah replied briefly. "I’ll just take a quick shower."
Even after she said that, Hajin did not let go of the handle. From her experience, there was no way Sarah could peel that muscle-laden hand from the door, so she deepened her furrowed brows.
