Chapter 32: An unexpected Sleepover
After dinner with Grandma Liu, Sarah felt much better. The old woman had made her laugh and forget about her troubles for a while. Now she was in the guest room, getting ready for bed.
The room was beautiful, with soft pink wallpaper and a huge bed covered in silk sheets. Sarah had changed into her comfortable white cotton robe and tied her long hair up in a messy bun. Her slender neck was now visible, and she felt relaxed for the first time all day.
She went to the bathroom and did her skincare routine. Her face looked less sad now, thanks to Grandma Liu’s kindness.
Sarah walked back to the bedroom and was about to get into bed when she heard a knock at the door.
"That’s strange," she thought. It was almost 11 PM.
She heard some noises outside - footsteps and what sounded like someone talking on the phone. Sarah walked slowly to the door, feeling confused and a little worried.
"Who is it?" she called out softly.
No answer.
Sarah pressed her ear to the door and heard more shuffling sounds. Someone was definitely out there, but they weren’t answering her. Maybe it was one of the mansion staff? But why would they be here so late?
Sarah took a deep breath and opened the door slowly. Her mouth dropped open in shock at the sight before her.
Mason was standing there in his black suit, but he looked different from usual. His hair was messy, his tie was loose, and his eyes looked tired. His face was still cold and unreadable as always, but something about him seemed... softer?
