Ch. 1407 - The Bet & The Night Assault
New NovelđȘ¶
The Chaos Casino was the largest casino in the entire Chaos Fire God Realm, and it operated under the protection of the Chaos Fire God Realm itself. Everything conducted here was legitimate and carefully regulated, so people could place their bets with full confidence.
By the time Xu Zimo and his companions arrived, the place was already packed. After the release of the Myriad Flames Ranking, the betting frenzy had multiplied several times over.
âHow much are you two betting?â Zhang Hengzhi asked with a grin.
âRealm Lord, donât say I didnât warn you,â Xu Zimo replied with an easy smile. âBet everything you have on me. I promise youâll walk away with a fortune.â
Hearing this, Zhang Hengzhi couldnât help but frown slightly. Where did Xu Zimo get such confidence?
This tournament gathered the most elite prodigies of the Chaos Fire God Realm, young geniuses of extraordinary talent. Even figures like Shangguan Xian, hailing from other God Realms, were no slouches. Even Xiao Anshan himself probably didnât have absolute certainty of victory.
And Xu Zimo, while clearly gifted and full of potential, hadnât yet displayed power on that same level, or so Zhang Hengzhi believed.
Xu Zimo could tell what Zhang Hengzhi was thinking just from his expression, but he didnât bother to explain.
Believe it or donât, he thought. It makes no difference to me.
After some thought, Zhang Hengzhi finally sighed and said with a bitter smile, âYoung Master Xu, Iâve trusted my instincts all my life, and theyâve rarely failed me. Iâll bet on you this once. If I lose, then itâs just my bad luck.â
Xu Zimo nodded with a grin and then shouted toward the interior of the casino, âHey, waiter, come here a moment.â
âWhat can I do for you, sir?â a busy maid asked, hurrying over.
âGet your manager. Tell him I want to place a bet,â Xu Zimo said calmly.
âSir, if youâre betting, please join that line. Our staff will assist you,â the maid explained politely.
âIâm placing a large bet,â Xu Zimo said with a faint smile. âI doubt your clerks have the authority to approve it.â
The maid hesitated, eyeing Xu Zimo carefully. Something in his bearing made the man uneasy, and after a momentâs hesitation, he nodded and went inside.
Not long after, an elderly man emerged from the inner hall and approached with measured steps.
âYoung sir,â the old man said respectfully, âI am the manager of this Chaos Casino. You mentioned a wager?â
âLetâs find a quieter place to talk,â Xu Zimo replied.
The old man nodded, and the two entered a private chamber.
Half an hour later, Xu Zimo walked out again, the old manager personally seeing him off with a beaming smile and a deferential bow.
âYou two finished betting?â Xu Zimo asked his companions.
Shangguan Xian and Zhang Hengzhi both nodded.
âThen letâs go,â Xu Zimo said casually as he left the gambling hall.
Once outside, Zhang Hengzhi couldnât contain his curiosity. âWhat exactly did you bet on? That old man looked downright eager to please you.â
Xu Zimo smiled faintly. âIâve destroyed a few imperial sects before. I just used their treasure vaults as collateral for the wager.â
Zhang Hengzhiâs jaw nearly dropped. âWhat a waste!â he groaned. âWith that kind of wealth, you couldâve founded your own sect. Why squander it like this?â
âI bet on myself to win,â Xu Zimo said with a grin. âIf I really do, imagine how much the Chaos Casino will owe me in return.â
Zhang Hengzhi felt his breath catch. That kind of wager, if Xu Zimo won, the casino might have to pay out more than his entire fallen Celestial Mortal Holy Lands was worth.
He could only shake his head. Xu Zimoâs way of doing things was beyond his comprehension.
âWhen does the Chaos Fire God Realm say the tournament begins?â Xu Zimo asked.
âTomorrow,â Shangguan Xian answered. âBy then, Young Master Xu, youâll be famous throughout the entire Chaos Fire God Realm.â
âI donât care about fame or rankings,â Xu Zimo replied, shaking his head. âHow many slots are there for the Chaos Fire God Realm?â
âThree,â Shangguan Xian said. âThe top three competitors will qualify to enter the Fire God Raceâs Ancestral Lands.â
âŠ
The group returned to their inn, where Liu Huohuo had already booked rooms for the disciples of the Celestial Mortal Holy Lands.
âBe careful these next few days,â Liu Huohuo said the moment they arrived.
âWhatâs wrong?â Zhang Hengzhi asked.
âWeâre being watched,â Liu Huohuo said quietly, glancing around.
âPeople from Stone Flame City?â Xu Zimo asked. After all, that was the only faction he had openly offended recently.
âIâm not sure,â Liu Huohuo replied. âBut itâs better to be cautious, especially with the competition so close. We canât afford any slip-ups.â
âAlright, everyone get some rest,â Xu Zimo said with a wave of his hand. âWeâll be fine.â
Each person retreated to their own room.
Xu Zimo sat cross-legged in meditation. The moon disappeared behind clouds, and the night deepened into pitch-black silence. The once-bustling streets outside slowly fell quiet.
But near the inn, several shadowy figures lingered, more than a dozen men in black robes, hidden in the dark corners.
âLord City Master, shall we make our move?â one of them whispered.
âSend someone to test him first,â came a cold voice from the shadows. âRemember, kill only Xu Zimo. No innocents. Otherwise, the Chaos Fire God Realm will never let this slide.â
âUnderstood,â another voice replied darkly.
A figure stepped out from the nearby residence and joined the waiting assassins.
âYou,â the shadowy leader said, pointing to one of them. âYouâll go first. Test his defenses.â
The chosen man nodded.
He stepped into the air and silently glided toward Xu Zimoâs window.
Landing lightly on the windowsill, he crept the window open and slipped inside.
Minutes passed. Then ten. Then twenty.
Still no sound.
The men below frowned.
âSomethingâs wrong,â one muttered. âAll of you, go in. I want him alive if possible. Dead or alive, we must confirm.â
âYes, sir.â
More than a dozen black-robed figures shot up into the air and vanished into Xu Zimoâs room.
The single assassin who remained outside waited anxiously. Another ten minutes crawled by, still no sign of movement, no noise, nothing.
His expression hardened, eyes narrowing. He turned to leave, but just as he spun around, he froze.
Xu Zimo was leaning casually against a nearby tree, smiling faintly at him.
âYou took so long, I got tired of waiting,â Xu Zimo said lightly. âI had to come down myself. Shame, it seems the big fish didnât show up. Your city master isnât here.â
âThis has nothing to do with the City Master,â the black-robed man stammered.
âDoesnât matter,â Xu Zimo said with a faint grin.
He reached out casually, and the assassin tried to flee, but it was useless. An overwhelming force pressed down on him, pinning him in place.
A moment later, Xu Zimo threw him directly into his God World.
âThese should be enough to help me break through to Saint Sovereign,â Xu Zimo thought silently.
He entered the God World himself, where the dozen captured Fire God Race assassins now lay bound before Blue Man.
Mystical energy surged around Blue Manâs body, drawing the Fire God Race men toward him as if they were iron filings pulled by a magnet.
One by one, the assassins were consumed.
At that moment, the power of edicts manifested around Blue Man again, rippling through the realm.
Xu Zimo sat cross-legged, eyes closed, beginning his comprehension of those edicts.
As time passed, his aura grew stronger and stronger.
Above the skies of the God World, thunderclouds had already begun to gather.
