Chapter 93: A forced divorce.
Helena Drew had been in the medic bay for hours, hoping that the doctors could figure out how her voice had been stolen. They had not helped her at all.
Doctor Sing had told her that her throat was inflamed, and they took some blood to run a few tests. Then they kept her in the medic bay with different doctors poking and prodding her.
In the end, none of them helped her and she was sent away.
When she went home to seek her husband, she found two base counselors waiting for her and they escorted her to the information center in the second wall, to the law office where all legal matters on the base were handled.
She was taken into an office and made to sit down. Her husband was in the office too, but they would not allow her sit next to him. He sat in a chair opposite of her, looking at the walls, window and everywhere else but her.
Helena tried to talk to him but without a voice, she could not communicate, So, she knocked on the table and yet he still pretended not to hear her. When she tried to stand up, the camp counselors with their fake smiles forced her to sit down and urged her to calm down.
She had this dreadful feeling that something bad was about to happen and that feeling was verified when Cyrus Shaw entered the office.
His secretary trailed behind with cups of tea that were offered to everyone. Drew sat up and finally faced Helena.
Cyrus Shaw did not waste a single moment. He slid some papers towards Helena. "Miss Helena Montana, I hope that you are having a great day."
Helena slammed her hands on the table and stood up. She made hissing like noises that were faint as she tried to shout at the lawyer. What good day did he think she was having when her voice was gone?
