Three days had slipped by, and still, there was no sign of Verena.
No messages, no trace, not even the faintest whisper of where she might have gone.
Her dorm room remained untouched, her bed perfectly made as if she’d never slept in it.
The professors gave no answers. The administration deflected every question. Rumors began to twist through the halls like creeping ivy.
Some said she had been expelled, others whispered she had been taken by the Threads.
But no one really knew.
All Evelyn had was the unbearable silence where Verena used to be.
"I’ve failed to protect m’lady..." Clarina muttered, guilt weighing heavily in her voice. She hugged a pillow like it could somehow cushion the regret.
Truthfully, she hadn’t been checking on Verena as often as she should’ve.
