As usual, he stayed in the office until eight o’clock before standing up to leave.
Thinking of how he had been too busy with work in the past few days to bring anything to Jiang An, the man decided to drive to the dessert shop he had found earlier, only to find it closed. Sitting in his car, he could not help but frown, a shadow falling over his resolute face as he silently drove home.
Along the way, neon lights were flickering, and a gentle evening breeze was blowing, but the man’s brows showed no sign of smoothing out.
He parked his car, trudged upstairs with his weary body, loosening the tight tie at his chest as he walked, unknowingly arriving at Jiang An’s house, where a firmly shut door stood before him.
The dim light from the corridor fell on his head as he paused to stare at the cold door for a few seconds, the light in his eyes dimming by half.
After a while, Gao Chuan turned around, continuing upstairs to his own door and pulled out his keys.
Entering his home, he habitually reached for the switch by the door to turn on the living room lights, but with a "click", the expected brightness did not come, and repeated pressing proved futile.
Barely able to see, he made his way into the bedroom and found the lights there wouldn’t turn on either. He frowned, using the light from his phone to check the balance for the water and electricity bills—there was no issue.
