Several days later, the medical summit concluded, and Jiang An returned to her country with her mentor on the next day’s flight. The girl, dragging her luggage, didn’t reach home until the afternoon, and worn out from the journey, she took a shower and went straight to bed to sleep.
Spending the week in a rush, Jiang An was nearly exhausted, the thought of the upcoming thesis defense giving her a headache.
As time quietly slipped away, Jiang An awoke and grabbed her phone from beside her pillow, only to realize it was already eleven o’clock at night. Thirsty, she got out of bed to get some water from the kitchen. She had just turned on the living room light when she heard the sound of the door opening at the entrance. As she walked over, Gao Chuan, who had had a busy day, had already changed into slippers and entered the living room. He noticed Jiang An standing still, watching him intently, which made his dark eyebrows slightly raise, soft ripples emerging in his expression.
Jiang An didn’t expect the man to return home from work at this time. Her gaze fixed on Dr. Gao, who was still dressed in an impeccably tailored black suit that accentuated his broad shoulders and narrow waist, standing tall and striking. His white shirt had the top two buttons undone, revealing a glimpse of his collarbone – if she were to describe him, the word "abstinence" would probably come to mind.
"The summit is over?" Gao Chuan noticed the girl staring silently at him, and took a few steps forward, asking indifferently.
Jiang An snapped back to reality, nodding frantically in front of him. It had been a week since she saw him last, and only now did she realize how much she had truly missed him.
"Why did Dr. Gao come back so late?" Jiang An noticed the tiredness in his eyes and expressed her concern.
Gao Chuan took off his coat, placing it beside him on the sofa, his tone as calm as usual: "There were some issues at the hospital, so I was delayed."
Originally, there was only one surgery scheduled for the afternoon, but he was subsequently informed last-minute about an emergency meeting. As he busied himself, he had forgotten that today was the day Jiang An was returning.
"Have you eaten yet?" They both asked at the same moment, their voices overlapping. A tinge of red appeared on the girl’s cheeks.
"I haven’t. Would Dr. Gao like to eat something? I’ll cook," said Jiang An, who hadn’t eaten anything since getting off the plane and had even heard her stomach growling as she slept.
