Chapter 334: Severing Ties (1)
Yan Family Mansion.
Mu Yiliang couldn’t remember if this was her first time here, but it seemed that whether it was six years ago or now, the mansion hadn’t changed at all.
Like a decaying old man, unwilling to accept the passage of time, stubbornly refusing any change.
When Mu Yiliang and Yan Sijue arrived, the Yan Family was already gathered. Seeing them enter, most people showed expressions of schadenfreude on their faces.
Old Sir Yan sat as usual at the head seat, his face riddled with wrinkles and devoid of expression, his eyelids slightly drooping.
It was only when he heard Yan Sijue’s "Grandfather" that he looked up, a glint appearing in his murky eyes.
"You’ve come?" His voice was flat.
"Yes, I’m here," Yan Sijue replied blandly.
"Are you sincere?"
"I am."
Old Sir Yan let out a long sigh: "Sijue, why are you doing this?"
Yan Sijue was silent for a moment, then suddenly looked up, smiling lightly: "Grandfather, why are you doing this?"
Old Sir Yan’s face darkened as he stared intently at him.
Everyone in the Yan Family knew he always disliked this grandson’s appearance. They thought he simply detested men who were too handsome, but only he knew the real reason was that this grandson looked too much like that person.
Although the features weren’t very alike, whenever he saw Yan Sijue, he would think of that person, and all the setbacks he had suffered because of him, and the panic upon realizing he was no longer young.
Perhaps bringing him back was a mistake from the start!
Old Sir Yan sighed deeply: "Since you hate being a member of the Yan Family, let’s do it this way."
As soon as he finished speaking, Yan Yaohao brought the family register, and the servants set up the ancestral worship items. Old Sir Yan, supported by Yan Feiqin, personally burned incense in front of the family register.
"Come on."
He turned to call Yan Sijue.
Mu Yiliang always stayed by Yan Sijue’s side. Members of the Yan Family weren’t particularly surprised at her presence; she sensibly observed the situation, a trace of worry and reluctance showing in her eyes.
Because she clearly felt at that moment the strong emotions emanating from the man beside her, not quite sadness, but somehow distressing.
Yan Sijue smiled at her reassuringly, patting her gently before walking to Old Sir Yan’s side and signing his name on the prepared paper.
The ceremony was merely a formality; the truly important part was this severance document. From now on, Yan Sijue would have no relation with the Yan Family and would lose his right to inherit any Yan Family property.
The moment Yan Sijue put down the pen, Mu Yiliang clearly heard a collective sigh of relief from almost everyone, as if they had been holding their breath.
She suddenly felt both angry and heartbroken, while also somewhat proud. See, my man is so magnanimous! He doesn’t care at all about the inheritance you all obsess over!
Old Sir Yan signaled to Yan Yaohao to put away the severance document and instructed the servants to clear everything away, then suddenly waved his hand.
He was indicating for everyone else to leave.
Yan Feiqin was the first to understand his intent, immediately instructing the children and grandchildren to leave. Mu Yiliang was a bit worried, but Yan Sijue quickly gave her a reassuring look.
She could only leave with the others, but her hand was already in her pocket dialing Yang Ru’s number, determined to act if anything went wrong. Though she didn’t think Old Sir Yan would harm Yan Sijue in public, what if he got overly provoked? Better to be safe than sorry.
The large living room quickly emptied, leaving only Old Sir Yan and Yan Sijue.
Old Sir Yan shed his previous lethargy, eyes sharp: "Speak, what exactly do you want to do?"
