Chapter 109: Gathering at the Birthday Banquet (7)
Qin Jiran had indeed noticed the look Qin Zhenyi gave him, full of dissatisfaction and indifference. But what of it? He had long since determined that he had nothing to do with the Qin family. This father by blood was as much a stranger to him as any other, so why should he care about the gaze of a stranger?
"Big brother, that’s enough. The Su family is not to be trifled with." Though Qin Zhenyi was quite considerate, he wasn’t lacking intelligence. At least he had more insight than Qin Zhenren and knew that it was better not to offend the Su family, otherwise he would not have maintained his silence.
When it was revealed that Qin Jiran was Qin Zhenyi’s illegitimate son, Qin Zhenyi’s first reaction was to get rid of Qin Jiran. Of course, getting rid didn’t mean to kill him, but rather to make Qin Jiran disappear from public discourse, possibly moving abroad like before, erasing this stain from his life out of sight.
But then, considering Qin Jiran’s current status, he realized such a thought was impractical. The Su family was a great clan not inferior to the Qin family. As long as the Su family shielded him, he couldn’t touch Qin Jiran, all the more so considering Qin Jiran’s present standing was not easy to contend with.
Therefore, after deliberating and weighing the pros and cons, Qin Zhenyi decided to deal with the matter coldly, at least to remain silent for the time being and see how things unfolded. However, choosing this approach didn’t mean he wasn’t angry, especially since some reports about Qin Jiran’s background implied he was heartless and didn’t deserve to be a father, which made him tremble with rage. Even so, Qin Zhenyi endured it.
Subsequent investigations confirmed that this was his older brother’s plot, mainly aiming to destroy his reputation and prevent him from inheriting the Qin family’s company. But, the unexpected pleasant surprise was his father, the Old Master Qin, who had expressed a wish to meet Qin Jiran.
Qin Zhenyi naturally didn’t like Qin Jiran, but compared to his dislike, he quite coveted the Qin family’s assets. In his view, power and authority were a man’s ultimate goals. If Qin Jiran’s existence could sway Old Master Qin more in his favor, then he could reluctantly tolerate this blemish.
