Chapter 189: Had Enough
DAHLIA POV
The kitchen wasn’t much better than I thought it would be. It was also quite strenuous like any other tasks in the fortress. I honestly do not know which was worse, freezing out in the cold or burning in the heat of the cooking stoves in the kitchen fires. My back drenched with sweat as I bent down to fan the fire cooking a pot that contained porridge that I’m pretty sure would taste bland.
The head cook, a big woman that looked like the size men combined yelled loudly, barking out orders like she was the captain of some warship. We all moved rapidly, fast, taking extra care while doing so. If we did anything wrong, the punishments were severe. I once saw a girl who broke some dishes get her skin carved out by a piece of the dish she broke. Another one got beaten with a hot iron just because she burned the dish she was preparing. The whole kitchen smelled of burnt flesh for a few days before we finally got over but despite it all, I continued to my duty, not giving the head cook any reason to yell at me.
"Do you have no fucking arms?" The head cook suddenly yelled and I looked up to see her target was Ilyana who was busy stirring a pot of cabbage stew which was going to be our dinner.
"I’m so sorry Mistress!" Ilyana apologized, smart enough not to get into any trouble with the woman who sneered at her.
"Do not apologize to me you fucking twat, stir that or I am going to be chopping those arms of yours off since they seem to be useless!" She roared causing Ilyana to let out a whimper as she stirred the soup.
They sure couldn’t have picked a better person for this job! I’m pretty sure when they were looking for who to give the job they looked for someone who looked terrifying!
"And what the fuck are you looking at?" She snarled suddenly.
I had to blink to realize that she was now looking at me. Swallowing I shook my head and returned to my task. I have decided not to speak here and just pretend I was blind to everything, no matter how bad it hurts me. I will soon be free of this and I will liberate this people along with me.
