THE Knight's Hidden Princess

Chapter 133: A Moment Of Recognition

The girl in front of me looked familiar but at the same she looked very different since the last time I saw her. The last time I had seen her was when she was still a baby and when we had to show up for formal meetings. Even then she had looked a bit different because we hardly knew each other. Mom had died after giving birth to her, so Evie didn’t know much about her. She grew up with the nanny just like I was but I made sure to shield her from all the cruelties of the court, I protected her the best way I could have even as a child.

The last two times I had seen her, was when I was sixteen and she was twelve years. We had barely spoken to each other then but we had a good laugh when we had taken a colorful drink we thought was fruit drink but then it turned out to be alcohol. Lucky Bjorn found us before we made a fool of ourselves and he dragged us to our bedroom where we had a good laugh by using our hair as mustaches and pretending we were lords of the court. We had so much fun that night and for the first time in our lives we were just girls, two girls who were having fun instead of being bound by duty.

The second time we saw each other the last for the final time was at my wedding. Even then she had stood from afar watching me with a distant look on her face and then I had dismissed it as because we didn’t know each other well and we seemed to have grown into different women.

But now, the girl I had seen the last time was gone, in her place was a completely different person. For starters her hair had been shaved off completely. She was dressed in all leather and the look in her eyes was blank, almost like I was staring into some soulless part of her and the only way I could recognize her was because of those familiar green eyes like mine. But this wasn’t my sister even from where I laid in the ground as I stared at her, I could already tell that she wasn’t my sister.

"Evie?" I called again but Evie gave no sign that she heard me. I turned to glare at my father. "What have you done?" I yelled at him.

My father straightened, clearing his throat before he could speak. "I didn’t do anything to her. I just trained her to be the perfect daughter, something you couldn’t do!"

"You are a fucking evil bastard you know that right?" I yelled before I turned to look at my sister. "Evie, it’s me Dahlia."

Instead of answering Evie grabbed me by my collar and lifted me from the ground and I stared at her but before I could question it, she reared back and head-butted me in the face. The impact caused me to stagger backwards and I stared up at her but Evie was already lunging for me and she was about to give me another punch but I moved away just in time causing her blow to hit the shelf which cracked into splinters at the impact of her fist.

I stared at the splintered woods then back at my sister who didn’t seem to even flinch at the pain it must have caused on her hand. My stomach dropped as I took in the way she stood, rigid not blinking her face vacant of anything. I knew Evie was different but so was the Evie I fought with yesterday. She still showed a little bit of well...emotions but now, she looked completely hollow, like a puppet that its string was being pulled.
