Chapter 71: An Invitation To Tea
I stared at Reagan wondering if he was joking or if he was dead serious but he had this stoic expression on his face that told me that he was actually serious about it, he meant what he said!
I scoffed in disbelief, looking away momentarily before I turned to look at him, hoping that he was going to turn to look at me and tell me that it was a joke but Reagan remained standing, leveling me with a look that was filled with unwavering intensity.
"You are not joking." I whispered the words out to myself more than him but it would seem that Reagan heard me.
"No." He replied, "I wasn’t."
I chuckled but it was one without humor. "Why?" I asked him, "Why would you want me to give up something that...something that I do to help save people’s life?" I asked my voice hoarse and sounding a bit tired.
Reagan exhaled sharply before he looked away from me, "You want me to keep your secret? Then you will swear right here and right now that you will never become a vigilante again." Reagan stated firmly, not willing to go back on his words.
"Do you even know why I became the black knight in the first place?" I asked him as I fought to hold back the tears in my eyes.
"I don’t." Reagan responded, a little bit too quick than I would have liked, not even bothering to think about it. "I don’t and I do not care."
"You are right, you don’t and why should you?" I asked with a sniff, furiously wiping away at the tears before they could fall. "You never once cared about anything, so why start now? You know I had thought you of all people will understand why I was doing this. The brave knight who fights for justice, I mean if anyone should understand, it should be you?"
