Chapter 44: Alone With My Own Thoughts
The garden was quiet as I sat down on the edge of the river bank. Everywhere was quiet and the only sound I could hear was the melodious sounds of the birds that visited the garden frequently and the quacks of ducks that were on the river. The serene was beautiful and it was peaceful, it was why I ran out here in the first place, it was the only place that I could hide and listen to my own thoughts.
Ever since Celeste announces that she was pregnant, it was all everyone could talk about in the house. I couldn't even take one step with anyone announcing the Hawthorne family will finally have its first grandson. Servants spoke about it, not in hushed whispers like they were truly excited for her and Reagan. And even if the servants didn't want to talk about it, Celeste was doing anything to make sure people know of the news.
She has been prancing along the corridor and hallways where she knew people would be walking around the most and she started doing silly things like chores. The other day she began lifting baskets from the ground, then complain about her back and this morning, she tried to get down the stairs but couldn't, saying she felt so heavy.
It was on the tip of my tongue to tell her it wasn't even a month yet and if she was acting this way now, how would she act when she finally start showing? So before I do something stupid like yell at her, I decided to come here, to find my inner peace and to also avoid Reagan.
He has been trying to talk to me but I just didn't want to talk to him. Not right now when I was barely holding it together!
Drawing in a deep breath, I sat by the lake, relaxing when all of a sudden I heard footsteps. I whirled around quickly only to see Killian walking towards me with a guilty look on his face.
He raised his hands up and it was then I noticed one hand was busy holding two cups and the other hand was busy holding a bottle of wine. "Relax, it's just me!"
I frowned at him, "What do you want?"
"May I sit?" Killian asked me with a wary tone.
