THE Knight's Hidden Princess

Chapter 24: Crossing Boundaries

Reagan and I decided to take keep our status a secret the moment we decided to speak to the nice family of six. They have two boys and two girls. The father, being muscular and tall with hands that were calloused when he shook my hands, said his name was Henry. Edwina was his wife and she had beautiful looking eyes that that were filled with warmth anytime she smiled. The couple invite us into their home, luckily for us they were just about dinner.

It was at dinner, we learnt Henry was a hunter and Edwina worked a farmer and she has her own plot of land she uses to farm not quite far from their house. When they asked us what we did, I immediately jumped in and told them that Reagan was a traveler, which wasn't exactly a lie. He travels, just not for sightseeing like they think. When they asked me what I did, Reagan had dropped in and told them I was a seamstress.

I immediately went into a choking fit with Reagan patting my back. Edwina had poured me more water wondering what was wrong but I just smiled and shook my head awkwardly telling them that I was okay when on the inside I was screaming. Did he think just because all women learnt embroidery, they become seamstress? And he didn't even call me just a seamstress, he called me the best one in town!

Edwina of course had seemed delighted to hear that and had asked if I could make her a dress for her for her wedding anniversary. I had told her it would be my pleasure but on the inside, I was calculating the fastest way to get out of here.

Deciding to retire for the night, the parents led us into a spare room they had. It wasn't much—wooden walls, a single bed, and a patched quilt that had seen better days—but it was warm and clean. Reagan thanked them graciously, and they left us with soft goodnights and smiles.

The moment the door shut, I turned to glare at Reagan who sank on the bed without taking off his boots. "You having fun?"

Reagan turned to stare at me, "Not exactly, the bed is way too small." He said as he looked at the bed before looking at me, "You know what this means?"

"Oh I do, except it's not happening!"

Reagan scoffed before he sat up on the bed, "Look, we just told them we were newlyweds who got missing in the woods during our honeymoon phase, it's going to look really weird when they wake up to check in on us and they see us sleeping apart."
