Chapter 19: What The Hell Is He Playing At?
The grandest party was thrown in the duke's honor. Marina was such a good host, providing the very best of entertainment and making sure the duke and his entourage was comfortable. I hate to admit it but even I was impressed with the way Marina handled everything. She made sure the servants worked hard enough to make everything okay for the duke. His room was flawless and the food, gods the food and wine was so good I wished the duke would be here every day.
Everyone enjoyed themselves, it was the first time I felt truly happy during my stay here. Killian told us stories, stories that made everyone laugh. He was easy going like I had predicted and fun to be around with, everyone had a nice time with him, everyone except Reagan who for some reason decided to seat next to me.
I won't lie and say his presence right next to me didn't bother me. It did bother me but I decided not to say anything. Not even when his hand would brush mine each meal and I would feel his eyes on me the entire time. I paid him no heed though, deciding to just focus on Killian and the entertainment around us.
It was a little late in the night when I decided to retire to my bedroom. Smiling, I stood up from the chair, "I am so sorry everyone, but it is high time I retire for the night?"
Killian turned away from where he was talking with Adrianna, "So soon."
"My wife loves sleeping early." Reagan suddenly spoke up before I could reply.
Again, I ignored him. Though, the urge to turn to look at him and ask how he knew that was too great but I was thankful I ignored him. Instead, I chose to smile at Killian, "My apologies once again my lord, I will see you tomorrow."
"I will look forward to our meeting once again my lady." Killian said bowing his head at me in respect.
"Well in that case, I guess I should retire for the night too."
We all turned to Reagan as he stood up. I thought for sure I heard him wrong but the way he was smiling at me told me all I needed to know.
"Why so soon my dear?" Marina asked no doubt as confused as we all were.
