The sect competition is basically done to decide the rankings of disciples in various realms. There are various rewards which were given according to your rank.
If you are ranked first in Qi refinement realm then you will get 100 Spirit stones per month, till next competition. 500 for foundation establishment realm, 1000 for core formation realm and 5000 for soul sea realm.
There are other benefits for first ranks, like choosing some top tier cultivation techniques or skills which are not available for everyone, having more access to special training grounds etc... but I doubt you will be interested in those so let’s not mention them.
That’s all there is to sect competition, also it decides your status in same realm and top ten of each realm are treated as genius of the sect and are paid attention by sect’s elders, some of them are even taken as disciples by some elders. That’s why it is quite famous in disciples.
