Mortals are those who don't have spiritual roots inside their bodies.
Without a spiritual root, you won't be able to sense spiritual qi, hence cultivation is impossible.
There are various types of spiritual roots in this world, they are divided into single elemental spiritual roots, dual elemental spiritual roots, tri-elemental spiritual roots... However, if a person has 4 or 5 elemental spiritual roots, they are called pseudo-elemental spiritual roots.
They are grouped together because, whether 4 or 5 elements, pseudo-elemental spiritual roots are not suitable for cultivation, and no sect in any world would take them in.
So, usually, cultivators with pseudo-spiritual roots become loose or rogue cultivators.
Single elemental spiritual roots are the best for cultivation and are also known as heavenly grade spiritual roots. Dual-element spiritual roots are known as earthly grade spiritual roots and are the real strength of every big sects . There are far more cultivators with earthly grade spiritual roots available than heavenly grade spiritual roots afterall .
Tri-elemental spiritual roots are known as common-grade spiritual roots. I won't explain tri-elemental spiritual roots in detail, as they are just used as servents in the top sects."
