Chapter 113: Causing trouble
Third Person POV
Anger surged through his body as his eyes grew wide and his cheeks were flushed red. He clenched his jaw tightly and he whipped his head around to glare at his mother with narrowed eyes.
"Don’t mention that in front of me," he warned through gritted teeth, emotions running wild in his dark eyes. "What’s your purpose in bringing this up randomly? Is it to get me riled up? Or to taunt me and Aurelia?"
"Why can’t I mention it?" Paula questioned, remaining arrogant. "I was just asking a simple question out of curiosity, I am not doing this on purpose or anything of that sort," she explained with a scoff that left her parted lips as though her son had wronged her.
"It’s none of your business."
"How is it none of my business?" She challenged, defiance gleaming in her eyes as she stared at her son. "She is my son’s wife who is carrying another man’s child. Why can’t I ask? Should I not be concerned about this?"
He stepped forward, closing the gap between them. "We don’t need your fake concern. Who told you this?" He asked but as soon as the words rolled off his tongue, realisation dawned upon him and it finally clicked inside his head. He turned to fix his eyes on Evelyn. "It’s you, isn’t it? You told my mother about this?" He questioned, the words that left his mouth were dripping with accusation.
"I did," Evelyn admitted without a second thought.
"You–!" He burst out in anger.
"So what if she did?" Paula chimed in, defending Evelyn. "She was just concerned. She even brought me gifts as condolences and she came to comfort me."
A cold chuckle erupted from his throat. "Of course, she did..." he murmured under his breath with an incredulous look on his face.
