Chapter 105: Why should I help?
"Where are you going?" I found myself asking as I watched him stand up from the chair.
He let a smile fall on his lips as he looked down at me to meet my gaze. "I’m going to get you a drink. A nice one that isn’t made in the hospital," he said as he shot me a playful wink, eliciting a soft chuckle from my lips. "I won’t be long, I will be right back."
The corners of my lips twitched upwards into a small smile as he leaned in to give me a quick kiss. "Sure, I’m looking forward to it."
I watched as he walked out of that door and I was now all alone in the hospital ward, surrounded by nothing but the sounds of the beeping machines and constant buzz that lingered in the air.
I was staring out of the window, admiring the scenery outside as my mind was racing with thoughts. It felt like only a couple minutes had passed when I heard the door being pushed open, the sound broke me out of my little reverie.
My eyes lit up in excitement within the next second. "Back already? That’s..." My voice faltered as I whipped my head around and found myself looking into my mother’s eyes. "...quick."
"Hey darling," she greeted with a small smile etched onto her face, the niceness in her tone felt off-putting and foreign to me. "I heard from Blake that you were in the hospital. How are you doing? Feeling better now?" She asked seemingly out of concern but a frown found its way onto my face almost immediately.
"Why are you here?" I questioned, my tone carrying a sharp edge to it as my voice pierced through the air and I narrowed my eyes at her. I sat up straighter this time, my posture stiffened as my features hardened. "I don’t need your fake concern," I spat the words out like they were poison in my mouth.
She continued to maintain that nice demeanour as she let the door shut behind her and slowly approached me, closing the distance that was once between us in a few strides.
