Chapter 99: You have my word
The voice came through from the other side of the door.
"Come in!"
The door swung open and I was greeted with a smile from our receptionist. My eyes flickered down to see that she was holding onto a fruit basket.
"Someone left this for you," she explained. "Do you need anything else from me?"
I reached over to take the basket from her, muttering a "it’s alright, thank you" and watched as she walked out of the office.
I set the fruit basket down onto my desk, and saw a piece of card sticking out of the edge of the basket. Curious, I leaned in to have a closer look.
"Who sent you this?" Xavier asked with a raised brow.
"I don’t know, we shall find out soon."
I looked at the card that was in my hand. It was like a greeting card of some sort, on top of it was embossed with the words "Wishing you a speedy recovery."
My brows were knitted together, forming a frown that sat between my brows as my mind raced with thoughts. I opened the card, and my eyes landed on a familiar handwriting scribbled all over on the inside of it.
"I’m so sorry for your loss. Please accept this fruit basket as my condolences." That was what was written on the card. My eyes flickered down to see the name I hate to see.
